Was Joe Alwyn Edited Out of Taylor Swift’s New ‘Bejeweled’ BTS Video?
Taylor Swift recently released new videos from her Midnights music videos — and some fans think they’ve found an interesting detail.
On Swift’s 35th birthday, her team dropped a slate of “Behind the Scenes” YouTube videos of the pop star on the set of her videos for “Anti-Hero” and “Bejeweled.” In one clip from the fairy tale–inspired “Bejeweled,” Swift was seen speaking to makeup guru Pat McGrath with her iPhone in hand.
According to social media screenshots, when Swift clicked on her phone, it lit up with a never-before-seen image of her cuddling then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. In the official YouTube video, however, the photo is not visible, and the smartphone screen appears black underneath the clock.
While Swift has not publicly addressed the apparent situation, several fans speculated that the original footage was edited to blur out the image of Swift and Alwyn, 33.
“The reason they go so far as to blur out her wallpaper says a lot about how far she’s willing to go to not have her privacy taken,” one social media user wrote via Instagram comment.
Another added, “The fact that they blurred it out is so weird. Everyone knows she was with Joe at the time, it’s not some ground-breaking secret.”
Swift dated Alwyn for six years between 2016 and 2023.
“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years,” Alwyn told the U.K.’s Sunday Times in June. “That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
He added, “As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.”
Swift and Alwyn famously kept most of their relationship out of the limelight.
“Over the years, I’ve learned I don’t have the time or bandwidth to get pressed about things that don’t matter. Yes, if I go out to dinner, there’s going to be a whole chaotic situation outside the restaurant. But I still want to go to dinner with my friends,” Swift told TIME in December 2023. “Life is short. Have adventures. Me locking myself away in my house for a lot of years — I’ll never get that time back. I’m more trusting now than I was six years ago.”
Swift moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce in summer 2023, often stepping out for public date nights and supporting him at his Kansas City Chiefs football games.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” Swift added to TIME. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
A source exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month that Swift sees Kelce, 35, as “The One.”
